Mystic Dreamer Tarot

Five of Cups

A woman wrapped in a beautiful cloak stands facing us. Her expression is one of pain, but with a touch of strength and bravery. Three spilled cups lie near her, while two full cups are behind her. She has suffered a loss and feels great pain. But she is not destitute by any means. In the distance are a castle and a harbor with a ship in it. Two bridges promise to make the journey to the castle shorter and a little easier.

This card shows a time of difficulty and loss. More specifically, it is about how you deal with that loss. Every loss initiates change and is an opportunity for growth. Loss hurts because of our emotional resistance to change. This card represents that moment. But it carries a word of advice: look at the wonderful opportunity around you and move forward.

If reversed, this card can indicate an out-of-proportion reaction to loss, real or imaginary for the sake of melodrama or attention.

Use your intuition

  • Does this woman live in the castle or is she just making her way there?
  • What does the swan in the middle of the lake symbolize?
